Motorists in Madison County should prepare for significant traffic delays as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces lane closures on westbound Interstate 270. Starting Friday at 9 p.m. April 11, the westbound lanes between Interstate 255 and Illinois 203 will be reduced to one lane due to a road widening project. The closure is expected to continue until Monday, April 14, with all lanes reopening by 5 a.m.
IDOT advises drivers to expect delays and recommends using alternate routes during the closure. The department also urges motorists to reduce speed, stay alert to changing road conditions, and follow all construction signage. The use of mobile devices while traveling through the work zone is prohibited for safety.
