Madison, WI – Gardeners and early commuters should prepare for widespread frost from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, especially in areas north and northwest of Madison where overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, clear skies and light winds will create ideal conditions for frost formation in low-lying regions and rural communities along and northwest of Highway 151. Cities including Portage, Beaver Dam, and Waupun are under a Frost Advisory, with lows hovering between 33° and 36° through early Wednesday.
Milwaukee, Kenosha, and other lakeside areas will remain milder, with overnight temperatures in the 40s, but patchy frost may still form inland where temps dip below 40°. Residents in southern and central Wisconsin are advised to cover or bring in sensitive plants and avoid parking on grass to prevent frost damage.
The advisory will expire at 9 a.m. Wednesday, but additional advisories may be issued later this week as cooler temperatures persist.
