Staunton, IL (Macoupin County) – Illinois State Police troopers are investigating a crash that has shut down a major roadway near Interstate 55 on Wednesday.
According to Illinois State Police Troop 8, the crash occurred on Staunton Road just east of I-55. Both directions of Staunton Road are closed at this time as authorities investigate the scene.
The department noted that ramps from Staunton Road to I-55 remain open when approaching from the west, but access from the east is restricted. Motorists are urged to plan accordingly, as delays are expected in the area throughout the afternoon.
Drivers traveling between Staunton and nearby communities, including Litchfield and Livingston, should seek alternate routes to avoid the closure zone east of the interstate. Local traffic may be rerouted until the investigation and cleanup are complete.
No injuries or additional details about the crash have been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
