Mt. Clemens, MI – Floodwaters are already overtopping key banks along the North Branch Clinton River, creating hazardous travel conditions across Macomb County through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, the river reached 16.2 feet as of 10 a.m. Monday, exceeding the 15.0-foot flood stage and sustaining moderate flooding near Mt. Clemens. Water levels are expected to gradually fall below flood stage late tonight, but not before impacting low-lying roads and nearby neighborhoods.

Flood-prone stretches near the Clinton River, including areas along North River Road and parts of downtown Mt. Clemens, may see standing water or closures through the evening commute. Emergency officials warn that even shallow water can stall vehicles or hide roadway damage.

Drivers are urged to avoid barricaded roads and never attempt to cross flooded areas. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Residents in low-lying areas should monitor conditions closely and be prepared to move to higher ground if water levels rise further.

Conditions are expected to improve overnight as the river recedes, but additional advisories could be issued if runoff slows. The next update is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. Monday.
