Wakefield, Virginia – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Lunenburg County as accumulating snow is expected to create slippery and hazardous travel conditions through Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, 2 to 4 inches of snow are forecast in Lunenburg County. The warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. EST Sunday, following an upgrade from a previous winter storm watch.
Forecasters warn that roads may become slick, especially during overnight hours and on untreated surfaces. While snowfall amounts are lower than in surrounding counties, even modest accumulations may lead to hazardous driving conditions, particularly on secondary roads, hills, and bridges.
The National Weather Service urges residents to delay travel if possible. Motorists who must travel are advised to drive with extreme caution, allow extra time, and leave additional distance between vehicles. Sudden braking or acceleration should be avoided, and drivers should be especially careful when navigating hills or making turns.
Officials also recommend carrying emergency supplies such as food, water, and a flashlight in case of becoming stranded. Current road conditions in Virginia can be obtained by calling 511.
Snowfall is expected to accumulate gradually through the weekend, which may prolong slick conditions into Sunday. Commuters, students, and weekend travelers in Lunenburg County should plan for possible delays and reduced road safety.
Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local officials as conditions change.
