NEWBERRY, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced emergency repairs to the M-123 culvert over Auger Creek, located north of Newberry in Luce County. Crews will intermittently close the highway beginning Monday, Nov. 24, with work expected to continue through Friday, Dec. 19.

According to MDOT, traffic could be stopped for up to 45 minutes at a time during active work hours as crews alternate traffic flow in both directions. Outside of working hours and on holidays, the road will reopen to alternating traffic using a temporary signal already in place.

The project aims to stabilize the culvert structure and prevent further roadway damage. A 10-foot width restriction will be enforced within the work zone, prohibiting overweight loads. Emergency vehicles will still be permitted to pass at all times, officials said.

MDOT advises motorists to plan for possible delays, especially during weekday travel times through Newberry.

These closures are part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance efforts to ensure safe travel across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
