Lubbock, TX – Scattered thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and localized flooding to the far southern Texas Panhandle and parts of the South Plains late Thursday, posing a risk for evening commuters and rural residents. Drivers should watch for water-covered roads as showers intensify through the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the main concern is periods of intense rainfall leading to flash flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Rain chances will peak Thursday afternoon and evening before skies clear overnight. Otherwise, most of the region can expect a mild, mostly clear night with south-southeast winds from 5 to 15 mph and temperatures dropping to 65–72 degrees.

Communities from Lubbock to Brownfield and Littlefield may see heavy downpours, with brief disruptions possible along US 84 and State Highway 114. Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways, charge phones, and secure outdoor items in advance.

Conditions will quiet down by Friday morning, but more advisories are possible if rainfall rates increase overnight. Stay tuned to local updates and remain alert for changing weather.
