Lubbock, Texas – Storm chances remain elevated across Lubbock through Friday evening as the city experiences an unseasonably cool start to August.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, today’s highs will top out in the mid-80s to low 90s—well below early August norms. Showers and thunderstorms are likely through tonight, with temperatures dipping into the mid-60s.
Scattered storms may return Saturday night and again Sunday night. Saturday will bring highs near 90°F under mostly sunny skies, but Sunday turns hotter with highs climbing into the mid-90s to low 100s. Despite warming conditions, the chance for evening and overnight storms continues, particularly across the South Plains and Caprock region.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and avoid outdoor activity during lightning or heavy rain. Weekend travelers on U.S. 62, Loop 289, and I-27 should remain alert for wet road conditions after sunset.
Storm chances taper off early next week, but high heat could intensify.
