Lubbock, TX – Cooler temperatures and a wetter pattern are on the way for the South Plains next week as a significant upper-level change brings an extended period of rain chances, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lubbock.

After a warm and dry weekend, Monday will stay sunny with highs between 70 and 86 degrees, depending on elevation, and west–southwest winds up to 15 mph. On Tuesday, highs hold near the upper 70s and lower 80s with partly sunny skies and light southwest winds.

According to the NWS, rain chances begin to increase by Wednesday, with a 20–40% chance of showers spreading across the region. Highs will fall into the upper 60s to lower 80s, marking the start of a cooler stretch that continues into late week.

The best opportunity for rainfall arrives Thursday, when a disturbance is expected to bring a 40–60% chance of showers and partly sunny skies. Highs will range from the 60s to lower 70s, with lows dipping into the 30s for northern counties.

By Friday, conditions gradually dry out, though a 10–20% chance of lingering morning showers remains. High temperatures will stay cooler, ranging from 59–67 degrees, with overnight lows in the lower 30s to low 40s across the South Plains.

The NWS notes that this brief wet period may help ease recent dryness across West Texas but is not expected to produce significant flooding concerns.
