Lubbock, Texas – After a hot and dry weekend in the 90s, residents across the South Plains should prepare for a major weather shift early next week as a strong cold front sweeps into the region. By Tuesday, highs in Lubbock may struggle to climb out of the 70s, a sharp drop from the summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, storm chances begin increasing Monday with a 20% risk of showers, followed by a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday as the front moves through. Rainfall could be heavy at times, and winds will pick up from the east at 10 to 15 mph. By Wednesday, storm chances rise to 60%, with highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s.

The cooler, wetter pattern will bring relief from triple-digit heat but may also lead to slick roads and slower commutes, especially during morning hours. Drivers are urged to use caution on wet highways, and residents should monitor updates for potential storm advisories.

The unsettled weather is expected to linger through midweek, with additional rain chances possible into Wednesday night.
