Lubbock, TX – An unseasonably warm and dry weather pattern is expected to continue across the South Plains and Rolling Plains through Christmas week, keeping travel concerns low and temperatures well above normal for mid-December.

According to the National Weather Service office in Lubbock, daytime highs across the region will generally range from the upper 60s to upper 70s, with several locations approaching or exceeding 80 degrees later this week. Average highs for mid-December are typically in the low to mid-50s, highlighting how unusual the warmth will be.

Tuesday’s high in Lubbock is forecast near 61 degrees, with temperatures steadily warming into the low to mid-70s by Thursday. Even with a cold front expected on Thursday, forecasters say the system will be dry and will do little to disrupt the overall mild pattern.

By Friday and into the weekend, highs are expected to climb further, ranging from the mid-70s to near 80 degrees across much of West Texas. Overnight lows will also remain mild, generally staying in the 30s and 40s, limiting any risk of freezing conditions.

The extended outlook shows dry conditions persisting through Christmas week, with no significant precipitation chances and very low risk for weather-related travel issues. Winds may increase slightly at times, but no hazardous conditions are anticipated.

Meteorologists say the combination of warm temperatures and dry air will continue to suppress winter weather across the region, a notable contrast to typical December conditions.

Residents planning holiday travel or outdoor activities are expected to see favorable weather, though officials encourage continued awareness of updated forecasts as Christmas approaches.
