Lubbock, Texas – Hot, dry conditions will hold through Saturday in Lubbock before storm chances return late Sunday, bringing the potential for scattered thunderstorms across the South Plains. Afternoon highs will stay in the mid-90s, but increasing humidity could make conditions feel warmer for those outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a 20 percent chance of storms develops Sunday afternoon and lingers overnight. Similar chances are in place for Monday and Tuesday, with the best opportunity for rainfall during the late afternoon and evening hours. Winds will remain from the south at 10 to 15 mph, fueling both the heat and storm potential.

Localized downpours could bring slick conditions to highways including US-84 and Loop 289, especially during the Monday evening commute. While widespread severe weather is not expected, gusty winds and lightning could cause temporary disruptions. Residents are encouraged to monitor alerts and secure outdoor items ahead of any storms.

Temperatures will gradually ease by midweek, with highs dropping into the low 90s by Wednesday and upper 80s by Friday. More widespread sunshine returns late week as storm chances diminish.

Storm risks remain possible through Tuesday night, with additional advisories expected if activity increases.
