Lubbock, Texas – Sunny skies and warmer air settled over the South Plains Friday, but conditions could shift as isolated storms develop late Saturday across far western counties and the southwest Texas Panhandle.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, highs Friday will climb into the mid-80s to near 90 with light south-southwest winds between 5 and 15 mph. Tonight will stay clear with temperatures dropping into the upper 50s to near 60 under light southerly breezes.

The bigger change arrives Saturday as moisture increases west of Lubbock. Storms are most likely to form near the New Mexico border and drift into Cochran, Bailey, and Parmer counties by evening. While widespread severe weather is not expected, brief downpours, lightning, and gusty winds could impact travel and outdoor events.

Residents in the South Plains and southwest Panhandle should monitor updates, especially those with Saturday night plans. Emergency managers recommend securing loose outdoor items and checking for weather alerts if traveling toward the western counties.

Calm conditions return Sunday with highs back in the upper 80s. Additional advisories may be issued if storm coverage expands Saturday night.
