Lubbock, TX – Residents across the South Plains should prepare for daily storm chances this week, with the highest risk arriving Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.
Forecasters say afternoon and evening thunderstorms could develop each day through Friday, though coverage will remain spotty outside of the midweek window. Temperatures will stay near average, generally in the mid to upper 80s during the day and mid-50s to upper 60s overnight.
According to the NWS, Monday brings a 20% chance of isolated storms, mainly in the afternoon, following patchy morning fog. Tuesday’s forecast calls for more sunshine with a 25% chance of scattered storms.
Wednesday night into Thursday is expected to feature the most widespread rainfall potential, with storm chances climbing to 40–45%. Storms may linger into early Thursday, bringing locally heavy rain and gusty winds before tapering off.
By Friday, drier weather will return, though a slim 10% chance of a storm remains in the forecast. Skies should trend sunnier with highs around 83–91 degrees.
Meteorologists advise residents to monitor local forecasts for updates, especially midweek when severe weather risks are slightly higher. Travelers should also plan for potential delays during afternoon and evening commutes.
