Lubbock, TX – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the South Plains tonight, bringing the risk of damaging winds up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and torrential rainfall that could trigger flash flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, storm development will be most active on the Caprock this evening, with the most intense cells capable of producing hazardous conditions through the overnight hours. Residents in Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Bailey, and surrounding counties should remain alert for rapidly changing weather.

Evening travel may be impacted by reduced visibility, water-covered roads, and debris from strong wind gusts. Outdoor plans, including youth sports and community gatherings, should have contingency shelter options ready. If flooding occurs, never attempt to drive across water-covered roads.

The threat of thunderstorms will continue across West Texas through Wednesday, though Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons look quieter, with sunny skies returning midweek. Another round of isolated storms is possible over the weekend.
