Lubbock, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms may develop across the far southern Texas Panhandle tonight, though forecasters say the severe weather threat remains low. Skies will stay partly cloudy with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-60s across much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the primary storm window is late tonight into early Thursday morning, with the best chance for activity south of Lubbock. Winds are expected out of the south at 5 to 10 mph, keeping the air mild despite overnight cooling.

Lubbock will dip to around 64°, with Childress matching that number. Cooler conditions are expected farther north, with Plainview near 59° and Friona bottoming out at 57°. Slightly warmer lows will hold to the southeast, with Aspermont at 66° and Brownfield near 61°.

While severe storms are not expected, forecasters advise residents to remain weather aware, especially in the southern Panhandle where lightning and brief downpours could occur. Drivers should use caution in areas of reduced visibility from heavier showers.

Storm chances taper off by Thursday morning, but partly cloudy skies and light winds will persist. Additional updates from the National Weather Service are expected if storm coverage expands overnight.
