Lubbock, TX – Temperatures are expected to soar well above normal across West Texas Monday, with highs reaching the 90s and gusty westerly winds increasing fire danger, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

Forecasters say winds will blow near 25 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, helping to push warm, dry air across the Caprock and South Plains. The hottest spots will be found east of the I-27 corridor, including Childress, Spur, and Aspermont, where highs could approach 96°F.

While the weather will remain dry, the combination of low humidity, above-average heat, and gusty winds could lead to elevated fire weather conditions, especially in open fields and grassy areas. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose objects ahead of the breezy afternoon.

This warm, windy setup is expected to last through Monday evening before a gradual cooling trend returns later in the week.
