Lubbock, Texas – Afternoon highs near 80 degrees will bring warm conditions across the South Plains Thursday.

According to the US National Weather Service in Lubbock, partly cloudy skies will dominate the region today, with temperatures climbing into the mid- to upper-70s and low 80s in some locations.

Forecast highs include 77 degrees in Lubbock, 76 in Plainview, 80 in Childress, 78 in Aspermont and 75 in Friona and Denver City. Brownfield, Tulia and Levelland are also expected to reach the mid-70s.

Cloud cover is expected to increase tonight as temperatures fall into the 40s and low 50s. Lubbock is forecast to dip to around 48 degrees overnight. South-southwest winds are expected at 5 to 10 mph.

Major roadways including Interstate 27, US Highway 84, US Highway 62 and US Highway 87 are expected to remain dry, supporting smooth travel conditions throughout the day and evening commute.

While no precipitation or hazardous weather is forecast, the temperature shift from warm afternoon readings to cooler overnight lows may be noticeable for early morning commuters Friday.

The warm afternoon conditions may be especially relevant for students, young workers and outdoor crews working along area highways and construction zones.
