Lubbock, Texas – Unseasonably warm weather will continue across Lubbock through Christmas week, with daily high temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s, approaching or potentially exceeding record levels.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, highs on Monday are forecast between 79 and 85 degrees, followed by 78 to 83 degrees Tuesday. Temperatures ease slightly midweek but remain well above normal, with highs of 75 to 80 degrees Wednesday and 75 to 84 degrees on Christmas Day. Friday highs are expected to range from 71 to 83 degrees.
Overnight lows will remain mild for late December, generally ranging from the upper 30s to mid-50s throughout the week. Forecasters note that this level of warmth is considered extraordinary by December standards for the South Plains.
NWS officials state that no precipitation is expected during the holiday week, reinforcing the dry and springlike pattern. Several afternoons may challenge or break daily high-temperature records, depending on cloud cover and wind conditions.
The prolonged warmth could impact holiday travel plans, outdoor events, and energy usage, especially for residents accustomed to colder winter conditions this time of year.
Officials advise residents to remain mindful of fire safety and hydration during outdoor activities, even though it is late December, as the combination of warmth and dryness persists.
