Lubbock, TX – Triple-digit heat and record-breaking temperatures are expected to persist in Lubbock and surrounding regions throughout the weekend. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Friday, with temperatures soaring as high as 109 degrees. The heat warning is in effect from 1 PM to 8 PM CDT today, and temperatures could reach up to 112 degrees in some areas.
The extreme heat is accompanied by low humidity and gusty southwest winds, creating dangerous fire conditions across the South Plains region. A Rangeland Fire Danger Statement has been issued for far southeastern Texas, the Panhandle, and the Rolling Plains, warning of elevated to critical fire risk today between 12 PM and 8 PM.
Saturday is expected to bring more of the same with temperatures continuing to push the upper limits of the forecast. Lubbock could see highs around 106 degrees, with Childress potentially reaching a scorching 111 degrees. The combination of dry conditions and intense heat makes it essential for residents to take precautions. Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
