Lubbock, TX – Residents across the South Plains should brace for another unusually warm day Thursday, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 80s and mid-90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, unseasonably hot conditions will dominate the region through the day, with mostly sunny skies and light southerly winds ranging from 5 to 10 mph. Meteorologists noted that these highs are well above typical October averages for the area.
Thursday’s forecast calls for daytime highs between 88 and 95 degrees, creating a summer-like feel despite the calendar turning to October. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the upper 50s to low 60s, offering some relief after sunset.
Officials caution that prolonged exposure to these temperatures may still pose risks for sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and those working outdoors. Hydration and shade breaks are recommended throughout the day.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to remain warmer than normal heading into the weekend, although gradual cooling trends could begin by early next week.
