Lubbock, TX – Unseasonably warm and dry weather is expected to continue across the South Plains and Rolling Plains this Christmas Eve, with afternoon temperatures climbing well above normal for late December.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, high temperatures today are forecast to reach the mid to upper 70s across much of the region. Forecast highs include around 75 degrees in Lubbock and Plainview, 77 in Friona, 78 in Aspermont, and near 79 degrees in Childress.
While conditions will be dry overall, forecasters note that localized areas of patchy fog are possible this morning, particularly across portions of the South Plains and eastern Rolling Plains. Visibility reductions may be brief and unevenly distributed, improving as the morning progresses.
Aside from early fog concerns, weather conditions are expected to remain quiet throughout the day, with plenty of mild air and no precipitation expected. The warmth marks a significant departure from typical Christmas Eve temperatures, which are usually much cooler across West Texas.
The National Weather Service indicated that these above-normal temperatures will make for favorable holiday travel and outdoor activities later today, once any fog dissipates.
This forecast may be especially relevant for early-morning commuters, holiday travelers, and those with outdoor Christmas Eve plans across the Lubbock region and surrounding communities.
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of early-morning visibility conditions and continue monitoring forecasts for any changes heading into Christmas Day.
