Lubbock, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms could slow commutes and outdoor plans across Lubbock and the South Plains early next week as unsettled weather lingers through Thursday. Highs will stay seasonable in the low to mid-90s, but repeated storm chances may bring locally heavy rain and brief flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, showers and storms will be most widespread Monday through Wednesday, with the best chance of rainfall coming midweek. Rain probabilities peak at 40% on Wednesday before tapering to 20% Thursday. By Friday, drier air moves in, leaving mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.
Cities along the Caprock, including Plainview and Levelland, may see downpours during the evening hours when instability is highest. Lightning and gusty winds remain possible with stronger cells, though widespread severe weather is not expected. Motorists are urged to watch for slick roads, particularly on Loop 289 and U.S. 84 during heavier showers.
Storm activity should ease by late Thursday night, setting up a dry and warmer end to the week. Additional advisories may be issued if stronger storms develop.
