Lubbock, Texas – Scorching heat and another round of thunderstorms will challenge West Texas on Sunday, raising risks for power outages, road flooding, and dangerous lightning as highs soar to near 100 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a first wave of morning storms is expected mainly east of I-27 and off the Caprock, wrapping up by midday. Another round of thunderstorms, some potentially severe with damaging winds and hail, is likely to sweep across the region this afternoon and evening.

Travelers on major routes including US 84 and Loop 289 should prepare for reduced visibility and water ponding during heavy downpours. Outdoor activities and afternoon plans may be disrupted by rapid storm development and lightning threats. Residents are urged to secure loose objects, avoid flooded roads, and charge devices in case of power loss.

Thunderstorm chances will linger through tonight as temperatures fall into the upper 60s, keeping the risk of localized flooding and power disruptions in place. Additional alerts are possible, and residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service through Monday morning.
