Lubbock, Texas – Lubbock and much of the South Plains will bake under clear skies Friday, with highs pushing into the upper 90s and a chance of strong evening storms mainly over the Caprock.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the region will remain sunny through the afternoon with light southerly winds between 5 to 10 mph. Highs are expected to hit 96°F in Lubbock, Brownfield, and Childress, with slightly cooler temps near 93°F in Plainview. Storm chances increase after sunset, particularly in elevated areas west of the city, where isolated cells could turn strong to severe.

Residents in Friona, Aspermont, and other parts of the Caprock should monitor the sky after 7 p.m., as isolated storms could bring damaging winds or hail. No widespread rain is expected, but brief downpours or lightning are possible.

Those with evening plans are urged to stay weather-aware, especially west of I-27. Stay indoors during lightning and secure any loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.

Storm chances diminish overnight, but additional alerts may be issued if cells intensify.
