Lubbock, Texas – Triple-digit heat grips the South Plains and far Southern Texas Panhandle, with Lubbock and nearby communities seeing highs near or above 100°F every day through early next week. Local officials warn that some areas, especially off the Caprock, could spike to 105°F by Friday afternoon, creating elevated health and fire risks across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the most intense heat will blanket Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, and all nearby counties from Wednesday through Saturday. Thunderstorm chances return Saturday afternoon and continue into early next week, offering slight relief but also raising the risk for lightning and localized flooding. Winds will be breezy, especially on Thursday and Friday, adding to fire danger on dry grasslands.

Residents should avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon heat, hydrate often, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Travelers on I-27, U.S. 62/82, and area roads should be alert for sudden weather shifts and possible storm delays over the weekend.

The heat remains the biggest concern through Saturday, with scattered thunderstorms possible from Saturday evening through Tuesday. Stay tuned for additional advisories if storm threats increase.
