Lubbock, TX – A mix of rain, snow, and thunderstorms is forecast to impact the Lubbock region starting Friday night, bringing up to 3 inches of snow and localized flooding concerns.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the main part of a strong upper-level storm system will arrive late Friday and persist through Saturday night, affecting the Caprock and Rolling Plains. Rainfall amounts between 1 to 1.5 inches are expected across most of the region, with isolated higher totals near Post and Aspermont. Thunderstorms could bring locally heavier rain.
A cold front will push into the area early Saturday morning, shifting the precipitation to snow as temperatures drop sharply. Areas such as Plainview, Silverton, and Muleshoe could also see 3 inches of snow, while Morton and Matador are forecast for 2 to 2.8 inches.
Winds will intensify Saturday morning, with sustained speeds of 25–35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph, producing potentially hazardous travel conditions. Slick roads and low visibility are likely, especially where snow accumulates.
Residents are advised to avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding and limit travel Saturday morning. Prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures and ensure vehicles and homes are winter-ready.
