Lubbock, Texas – Residents across the South Plains can expect another sweltering day as temperatures push into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees by this afternoon. The Caprock will see highs in the mid-to-upper 90s, while areas off the Caprock could briefly touch triple digits.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, some high clouds will offer minimal relief from the heat, and conditions will remain mostly dry. Winds will stay light, limiting any cooling effect. Those planning outdoor activities should stay hydrated, limit strenuous work during peak afternoon heat, and take advantage of shaded areas whenever possible.

Tonight brings a break from the daytime extremes, with temperatures dropping into the upper 60s to mid-70s under mostly clear skies. The mild overnight conditions will be a welcome change for residents, though the heat is expected to return quickly by Saturday afternoon.

Heat precautions remain in effect, and more advisories may be issued if the hot pattern continues through the weekend.
