Lubbock, TX – The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the far southern Texas Panhandle and northern South Plains, in effect until noon Thursday.

Forecasters expect snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch, with locally higher totals possible across Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Bailey, Lamb, and Hale Counties. Communities including Plainview, Childress, Dimmitt, Tulia, and Muleshoe are under the advisory.

The wintry mix is expected to create slick and icy roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses, leading to hazardous travel conditions during the Thursday morning commute.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution, especially in rural or untreated areas. The NWS reminds residents that even light snow or sleet can cause rapidly changing road conditions overnight.

Drivers can check the latest travel updates by dialing 511 or visiting the Texas Department of Transportation’s road condition site.
