LUBBOCK, Texas – A stretch of clearer skies and warmer air is moving into the South Plains as showers over the southern Panhandle taper off overnight. Lubbock is expected to reach 91 degrees Wednesday afternoon, with much of West Texas heating into the low-to-mid 90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, skies will clear overnight Tuesday, and winds shifting out of the south near 10 mph will drive temperatures higher across the region. Communities including Plainview, Childress, and Brownfield can expect highs in the low 90s, while overnight lows will settle into the 60s.

Travelers across the I-27 and U.S. 84 corridors may see calmer conditions Wednesday after a few early-week showers, making for improved driving conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during the warmest parts of the afternoon as heat stress remains possible.

The warming trend is expected to hold through the end of the week, with sunshine and southerly winds keeping much of the South Plains above seasonal averages. Additional updates are likely if heat advisories become necessary.
