Pendleton, OR – The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Freeze Warning in effect tonight through Tuesday morning, with sub-freezing temperatures expected to drop as low as 27 degrees in portions of northeast Oregon.
According to the NWS, the Lower Columbia Basin faces a 70–90% chance of temperatures falling below 32 degrees, with the coldest readings anticipated in Pendleton, Hermiston, La Grande, and surrounding areas.
The warning remains in place from 11 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday, affecting both urban and rural communities across Umatilla, Morrow, Union, and Wallowa counties.
Forecasters warn that prolonged freezing conditions could damage unprotected crops, plants, and outdoor plumbing. Residents are encouraged to cover sensitive vegetation, bring pets indoors, and disconnect garden hoses to prevent pipe bursts.
The upcoming freeze marks one of the first significant cold snaps of the season. Motorists should also be alert for early-morning frost on bridges and overpasses Tuesday.
