LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Isolated thunderstorms could linger in southeastern Kentucky today, but much of the state is set to dry out and cool down as the week progresses.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, storms will be most likely in the Cumberland Plateau region through this evening, with most other areas remaining dry. Temperatures will hold in the mid- to upper-80s statewide, but overnight readings will dip into the upper 60s by Wednesday night.
Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green are expected to see partly sunny skies Thursday with highs in the low- to mid-80s. Eastern counties closer to Hazard and Pikeville may remain a touch more humid but should also trend drier by midweek. Cooler nighttime lows in the mid-60s will provide some relief after a string of muggy August nights.
Drivers across southern Kentucky should stay alert for brief downpours and slick roads early today, but travel conditions will steadily improve heading into Thursday. Power outages and flooding concerns are not anticipated with this round of storms.
The National Weather Service says the dry pattern will likely hold through Friday, with the next chance of rain not expected until the weekend.
