Louisville, Kentucky – Numerous strong thunderstorms are expected across central and eastern Kentucky Monday afternoon, with dangerous lightning, localized flooding, and gusty winds posing travel and safety concerns through this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, light showers will linger through the morning before activity intensifies midday. Storm coverage will be most widespread east of I-65, where temperatures could climb to 90 degrees and fuel heavier downpours. Areas west of I-65 can expect more scattered storm development.

Cities like Lexington, Richmond, and Elizabethtown could see the strongest impacts between 1 and 7 p.m., including brief street flooding and wind gusts topping 35 mph. Thunderstorms may also disrupt outdoor plans and slow evening commutes along I-64 and the Bluegrass Parkway.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, move indoors during thunder, and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Keep mobile devices charged in case of power outages caused by downed lines or wind damage.

Storm chances taper off after sunset, but similar stormy conditions are expected to return Tuesday.
