Louisville, Ky. – Kentuckians are bracing for a brutal stretch of heat this week as humidity and soaring temperatures push heat indices into the 105–110°F range through Friday, with little relief overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, confidence is high in excessive heat impacts across most of the state, with major health risks expected through at least July 26. Afternoon heat indices could exceed 107°F in cities like Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green, while nighttime lows will struggle to dip below the upper 70s—offering little cooling for homes without air conditioning.

Major portions of the state, including Elizabethtown, Richmond, and Madisonville, fall under the “Major” or “Extreme” impact zones. This level of heat threatens the health of vulnerable groups, could overwhelm cooling centers, and strain power grids. First responders have already reported incidents related to heat stress and car fires, possibly due to overheated engines or road surface degradation.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on the elderly or those without reliable cooling. Officials warn that power outages could complicate the situation further.

Excessive heat warnings remain in effect through Friday night, with updates possible as conditions evolve.
