Louisville, Kentucky – A surge of Arctic air is tightening its grip on Louisville Monday as a strong cold front sweeps through, bringing biting winds and dangerous cold that could quickly turn roadways slick by nightfall. Wind chills in the single digits are already making travel uncomfortable, with even harsher conditions expected by early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, temperatures will plunge into the single digits overnight, while wind chills are expected to fall below zero across north-central Kentucky. Officials warn that exposed skin can be affected in minutes, and untreated roads could develop icy spots as moisture freezes.

Blustery conditions are impacting major routes including I-64, I-65, and I-71, where sudden gusts may reduce vehicle control, especially on elevated ramps and bridges. Louisville Metro Emergency Services is urging drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and keep winter safety supplies in their vehicles. Residents are also encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors and limit time outdoors.

Conditions slowly improve Tuesday afternoon, but cold weather remains in place. Another round of wintry weather is possible midweek, and additional advisories could be issued as confidence increases.
