Louisville, Kentucky – A quiet and mild stretch across central Kentucky will come to an end late Thursday as an unsettled weather pattern brings showers, thunderstorms, and the potential for heavy rain through early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, high pressure will keep conditions dry and unseasonably mild Wednesday, with highs reaching the upper 50s to low 60s. Changes arrive Thursday night into Friday morning as showers and thunderstorms move into the region. While there is a low chance a few storms could become strong, confidence in severe weather remains limited at this time.

Rain chances briefly decrease during the day Friday, but forecasters warn that will not last long. Another round of more widespread rain is expected to develop Friday night and continue into Saturday morning. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible across much of central Kentucky, with locally higher amounts that could lead to ponding on roads and rises on creeks and streams.

Louisville, Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Frankfort, and surrounding communities may see the steadiest rainfall Friday night. Travel along Interstate 64, Interstate 65, and local roadways could be impacted during heavier downpours.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Saturday afternoon, with drier weather returning by evening. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates, avoid water-covered roads, and prepare for changing conditions as additional rainfall moves through late this week.
