Louisville, Kentucky – Strong afternoon storms could drench much of Kentucky today, with the National Weather Service warning of heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding across the region. Cities along the I-65 corridor, including Elizabethtown and Bowling Green, face the highest risk for downpours and lightning by late Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop through the afternoon and evening, with the heaviest activity expected after 3 p.m. The chance of storms increases to 70% on Father’s Day, especially along and east of I-65. Monday brings a 50% chance of continued storms, with temperatures rising into the mid-80s.
Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort should expect humid conditions and potential street flooding in low-lying areas. Rain totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible where storms linger, with brief gusty winds and cloud-to-ground lightning also likely. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone roads, secure outdoor plans, and monitor local alerts through the weekend.
Storm activity should diminish by Tuesday, but additional advisories may be issued if rainfall intensifies Sunday evening or Monday afternoon.
