Louisville, Kentucky – Light freezing rain and snow could create slick travel conditions across portions of central Kentucky and southern Indiana early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. EST for areas between the Kentucky Parkways and the Ohio River. Light freezing rain and snow showers are expected to spread across the region just before sunrise Wednesday.

Forecasters say temperatures will hover near freezing, but cold road surface temperatures could allow precipitation to freeze on contact, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. While precipitation is expected to be light, even small amounts of ice can lead to hazardous driving conditions.

The NWS notes that precipitation should transition to mostly rain by Wednesday afternoon as temperatures slowly rise above freezing. However, a glaze of ice or a light dusting to coating of snow remains possible during the morning hours, with confidence in impacts rated as medium.

Travel impacts are most likely during the early morning commute, especially in shaded and elevated areas. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution when crossing bridges. Young workers, students, and commuters traveling before mid-morning should plan for possible delays.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and advisories, particularly as attention remains on a larger potential winter storm later in the week.
