Louisville, Kentucky – Snow showers are expected to return to the Louisville metro Friday night into Saturday, with brief periods of heavier snow possible and minor accumulations likely, according to the National Weather Service.

In a Friday morning update, forecasters said a break from wintry weather this afternoon will be short-lived as a cold front moves through tonight. Rain is expected to transition to snow showers late Friday evening, continuing into Saturday morning. Some snow showers could become briefly intense, producing snow squalls capable of rapidly reducing visibility.

Most locations across central Kentucky and southern Indiana are expected to receive a dusting to around 2 inches of snow through Saturday evening. Probabilities for snowfall greater than 2 inches remain below 25 percent, according to the National Weather Service.

The highest travel risk is expected Saturday morning, when snow squalls embedded within broader areas of light snow could lead to slick roads and sudden visibility drops. Conditions may improve later Saturday as snow showers gradually taper.

Temperatures are expected to fall back into the 30s behind the cold front, allowing snow to accumulate on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Motorists traveling early this weekend are urged to use caution, reduce speed during heavier snow bursts, and allow extra travel time.

No winter weather advisories were in effect at the time of the update, but officials noted that conditions could change if snow squalls become more widespread.
