Louisville, Kentucky – Cooler air moved into central Kentucky Sunday, bringing what is expected to be the coolest day of the upcoming week.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, temperatures Sunday are forecast to remain in the 40s under a mix of sun and clouds. The cooler conditions mark a brief pause before a warming trend develops and continues through Christmas.

Forecasters said temperatures will gradually climb starting Monday, with highs returning to the 50s and lower 60s through midweek. By Christmas Day, temperatures are expected to approach 70 degrees in parts of the region, well above late-December averages.

The National Weather Service noted off-and-on chances for light rain during the week, though a widespread washout is not expected. Periods of dry weather are forecast between rain chances, limiting overall impacts.

Rain chances increase at times Monday night through Tuesday, with scattered light showers possible again around Christmas Eve. No winter precipitation is anticipated during this period due to the warming trend.

For commuters and outdoor plans, Sunday’s cooler weather will be the most noticeable temperature change, while later in the week will feel increasingly mild for the season.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on daily rain chances as the holiday approaches, but overall travel impacts appear limited.
