LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms are set to move through Kentucky this week as back-to-back cold fronts push across the region, bringing much-needed rain and a break from the late-summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the first front is moving through Thursday with widespread showers and storms across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. Conditions should gradually improve later in the day. A stronger front is expected Friday night into Saturday, delivering another round of storms before ushering in cooler, more comfortable air for the weekend.

Friday will bring highs into the upper 80s to near 90 across much of southern Kentucky, while northern counties stay in the low to mid-80s. The humidity will fuel late-day showers and storms, which could linger into the overnight. By Saturday, highs fall back into the upper 60s and low 70s, offering a cooler, drier finish to the week.

Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility in heavy downpours and watch for ponding on roads, especially Friday night. Outdoor plans may need adjusting until conditions improve late Saturday.

Additional advisories are possible as storms approach, with the National Weather Service monitoring for any stronger cells.
