LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Scattered thunderstorms will move across Kentucky and southern Indiana tonight, bringing a round of heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds before midnight. Commuters should be alert for ponding on roads during the evening drive.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, storm chances remain in play through Thursday as a series of cold fronts sweep the region. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s Wednesday afternoon ahead of isolated storms, then drop into the low 60s overnight with additional rain possible. By Thursday, highs will fall into the 70s with showers and a few rumbles of thunder lingering.
Central Kentucky, including Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Bardstown, may see repeated downpours, though rainfall totals are not expected to erase ongoing drought conditions. In southern Indiana, towns such as New Albany and Clarksville could also see brief heavy rainfall, but not widespread flooding.
Drivers are urged to watch for slick roads during storms and avoid low-lying areas prone to quick flooding. Outdoor plans Wednesday and Thursday should have backup indoor options.
Storm chances will persist into the weekend, though widespread drought relief is unlikely. More updates are expected as additional fronts move in.
