LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky will bake under dangerous heat from Sunday through Tuesday, with heat index values topping 105°F in several cities, raising the risk for heat-related illness. Saturday will be hot and humid, but forecasters warn the most dangerous stretch arrives late this weekend and lingers into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, heat index values could reach 107°F in Bowling Green and Bardstown on Monday, with similar numbers across Lexington, Louisville, and surrounding counties. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
The oppressive heat will blanket much of the state, with highs in the upper 90s and minimal overnight relief. Areas such as Brandenburg, Campbellsville, and Madison, Indiana, will also see heat index readings well over 100°F, making prolonged outdoor work dangerous.
Officials recommend avoiding strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, wearing light clothing, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles. A cold front is expected to bring some relief and an increased chance of storms by midweek.
