Louisville, Kentucky – A fast-moving clipper system is expected to bring a round of light snow to portions of central Kentucky and southeastern Indiana on Friday, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, snow is expected to be the primary form of precipitation as the system moves southeast through the Ohio Valley. Snowfall amounts are forecast to range from a dusting to around 1 inch, with isolated locations possibly approaching 2 inches, mainly across southeastern Indiana and the Bluegrass region of central Kentucky.

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, covering areas where accumulating snow may create slick travel conditions. Snow is expected to develop during the morning hours and taper off by late afternoon as the system exits the region.

Forecasters note that while snowfall totals are expected to remain light, slick spots are possible on untreated roads, particularly during periods of steadier snowfall. Travel impacts are most likely along major corridors including Interstate 64 through Louisville and Frankfort, Interstate 75 near Lexington and Richmond, and Interstate 65 across southern Indiana.

Temperatures will remain cold enough for snow to accumulate on road surfaces, especially bridges and overpasses. Visibility may briefly be reduced during heavier snow showers, though widespread significant travel disruptions are not anticipated.

The National Weather Service emphasizes that confidence in snowfall occurrence is medium, with the best chance for accumulation focused over the advisory area. Areas outside the advisory may see little to no accumulation.

This weather setup may affect daytime commuters, school transportation, delivery drivers, and regional travelers, especially during the late morning and early afternoon hours.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and stay alert for changing road conditions throughout the day Friday. Residents should continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as the system moves through the region.
