Louisville, Kentucky – Unseasonably warm weather will continue across the Louisville region through Sunday, with record high temperatures in the low to mid 70s, before a strong cold front brings gusty winds, showers, and a risk of isolated damaging wind gusts Sunday night into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, Sunday is likely to feature record-setting warmth for late December, with temperatures running more than 20 degrees above average. Conditions will remain dry and mild during the day before weather impacts increase Sunday evening.

Forecasters say a strong cold front will sweep through the region Sunday night, bringing showers and gusty winds. There is a marginal risk for sporadic or isolated strong to severe wind gusts, particularly late Sunday night into early Monday morning. While widespread severe weather is not expected, localized damaging winds are possible.

The Weather Service notes that gusty winds may occur even outside of thunderstorms as the front moves through. Any stronger storms that develop could briefly enhance wind gusts, especially in exposed or elevated areas.

Behind the front, temperatures will fall sharply. Monday morning lows are expected to drop into the 20s, with much colder air settling in compared to the record warmth just hours earlier. Wind chills early Monday may make it feel even colder during the morning commute.

Forecast confidence is listed as medium, with the primary uncertainty involving the exact strength and coverage of the strongest wind gusts. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and remain alert for updated forecasts or advisories.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring conditions closely Sunday night and preparing for a rapid shift from springlike warmth to winterlike cold in less than 24 hours.
