Louisville, Kentucky – Several rounds of light wintry precipitation are possible across the Louisville area and much of central Kentucky over the coming days, creating intermittent travel concerns, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.

Forecasters say small chances for flurries or brief light snow showers will continue through Saturday, with most activity remaining scattered and light. While significant accumulation is not expected this weekend, cold surface temperatures may still allow for slick spots, especially on bridges and elevated roadways along Interstate 65, Interstate 64, and Interstate 71.

Another window for wintry weather develops Sunday evening into Monday morning, as flurries stream in from the northwest. Little to no accumulation is expected during this period, but motorists should remain alert for patchy slick conditions, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

The most impactful period may arrive Tuesday into Tuesday night, when a more organized system could bring widespread wintry precipitation to the region. Forecast guidance indicates a greater chance for mixed precipitation, including freezing rain, sleet, and snow, with the highest risk for ice accumulation across southern portions of the area. Even light icing could significantly affect travel on major corridors such as I-65 south of Louisville, the Western Kentucky Parkway, and nearby secondary roads.

Temperatures will hover near freezing during these events, increasing the likelihood that precipitation freezes on contact. Road conditions could deteriorate quickly if icing develops, especially after sunset.

Officials urge residents to monitor forecast updates closely, particularly early next week as confidence increases. Drivers should plan for changing road conditions, reduce speed during wintry precipitation, and allow extra travel time.

While no single event appears extreme at this time, multiple wintry chances over several days may compound impacts across the region.
