Louisville, Kentucky – A band of light, fluffy snow is expected to move across central Kentucky today, bringing minor but noticeable travel impacts through this afternoon, with additional flurries possible into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the primary snow band is forecast to develop this morning across central Kentucky before gradually pivoting eastward through the afternoon and evening. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, brief slick spots may develop on untreated roads and bridges.

Snowfall accumulation is expected to be light overall, with most areas receiving little to no measurable snow. However, isolated locations could see localized light accumulations, particularly during periods of steadier snow. The probability of more than one inch of snowfall remains low across much of the region.

The snow is expected to affect travel along major roadways including Interstate 64, Interstate 65, Interstate 71, and the Western Kentucky Parkway, especially during the morning and early afternoon hours. Visibility may briefly be reduced during heavier snow bursts, though widespread hazardous conditions are not anticipated.

Additional snow flurries or light snow showers may persist tonight and into Saturday, though these are expected to produce minimal accumulation. Despite the light nature of the snowfall, cold ground temperatures could allow snow to stick briefly to elevated surfaces such as bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads.

Forecasters emphasize that while this event is not expected to meet advisory criteria, even light snowfall can create nuisance travel issues, particularly during peak travel times. Drivers are encouraged to remain cautious, reduce speeds, and allow extra following distance.

This system does not appear to bring significant wind or widespread impacts, but intermittent snow showers may continue to move through the region into Saturday before gradually tapering off.

Motorists traveling across central and eastern Kentucky should continue to monitor local forecasts and road conditions, especially along I-64, I-65, and I-71, where brief slick spots may develop.
