Louisville, KY – Drivers across southern Kentucky are waking up to dangerously low visibility Saturday morning as dense fog settles over much of the region, creating hazardous travel conditions during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service office in Louisville, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for southern Kentucky through 9 a.m. Central Time and 10 a.m. Eastern Time. Visibility in some areas has dropped to a quarter mile or less, especially along rural highways, river valleys, and low-lying terrain.

The advisory covers a wide swath of south-central and southwestern Kentucky, including areas near Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Owensboro, Hopkinsville, and surrounding counties. Fog has also been reported along major routes such as Interstate 65, the Western Kentucky Parkway, and portions of the Cumberland Parkway, where sudden visibility drops are possible.

Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights rather than high beams, which can worsen glare in fog. Allowing extra travel time is strongly recommended, particularly for early morning errands or work commutes.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise as temperatures rise and mixing increases. Until then, drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel when possible. Additional advisories could be issued if fog lingers longer than expected in localized areas later this morning.
