Louisville, Kentucky – Light snow is increasingly possible across central and eastern Kentucky Friday into Friday night, with the highest impacts expected along major corridors including Interstates 64, 65, and 75.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, forecast probabilities show a moderate to high chance of at least a dusting of snow across much of the region as a cold weather system moves through. Updated guidance indicates 60% to 80% chances of a dusting for areas north and east of Louisville, including Lexington, Frankfort, and communities along I-64 and I-75.
The probability of more impactful snowfall remains lower but notable in eastern Kentucky. Forecasters note a 30% to 50% chance of exceeding 1 inch of snow mainly east of Interstate 75, while areas farther west, including Louisville and Elizabethtown along I-65, are more likely to see minor accumulations or brief snow showers.
The National Weather Service emphasized that snowfall is most likely Friday night, with colder temperatures allowing light accumulations on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Even a light dusting could create slick travel conditions, particularly during evening and overnight hours.
Temperatures are expected to hover near or below freezing during the event, increasing the potential for snow to stick, especially on elevated surfaces. While widespread travel disruptions are not anticipated at this time, officials caution that conditions may change quickly if snowfall rates briefly increase.
For commuters, students, and weekend travelers, the timing could coincide with late-day travel along I-64 through Louisville and Lexington, as well as I-75 toward Richmond and London.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, allow extra travel time Friday night, and be prepared for changing road conditions. Additional updates may be issued as confidence in snowfall placement and amounts improves.
