Louisville, Kentucky – Temperatures climbing toward 80 degrees by Friday afternoon could create slick roads and sudden slowdowns along I-65 and I-64 as rounds of showers move through the region before the late-week warmth peaks. Drivers should prepare for wet pavement during the Wednesday and Thursday commutes, followed by unusually warm air heading into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a warm front lifting north will push temperatures well above early March averages. Highs are expected to surge through the 70s, with some locations nearing or topping 80 degrees Friday afternoon. That warmth could challenge daily record highs in parts of north-central Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Rain chances remain in play through Thursday night, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms possible, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Coverage may reach 40 to 60 percent at times, particularly near the Ohio River corridor and along the Gene Snyder Freeway. Brief downpours could reduce visibility below one mile and create ponding on roadways such as I-264 and US-31W.

The rapid temperature rise may also lead to areas of patchy fog during the early morning hours where ground moisture lingers. Motorists should use low-beam headlights in reduced visibility and allow extra space between vehicles on wet pavement.

By Friday afternoon, dry conditions are more likely, but gusty winds could develop as the warm air settles in. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and monitor updates, as additional advisories may be issued if stronger storms develop before the week ends.
